Dog that need extra help due to extenuating circumstances.
Sophie

Sophie is a 2 year old German Shepherd. She was almost done with her training and was already working with a disabled handler when she was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia in both joints in April 2009. The vet at Tufts has recommended arthroscopic surgery to remove any bone fragments in the joint to prevent further damage from occurring. The estimate is $2500 for the surgery. After she may required stem cell treatment to repair the arthritis in her elbows. The cost of stem cell treatments are $2500. If all goes well and she is able to make a full recovery, she will need to be retrained in hopes she can return to work. She will be seeing another vet shortly for their opinion and recommendations in hopes of a lower estimate.
Please consider sponsoring this beautiful girl so she may hopefully return to helping.
Thank you for your kind contribution.

Special Thanks to Toy Poodle Rescue for their kind contribution.
Taffy
Taffy is a 1 year old standard poodle. On the night of the Oct. 10, 2009 she injured herself while playing in the yard. She had to be rush to the Foster Hospital for Small Animal (an emergency vet). She was anesthetized and minor surgery was performed to close the wound. There was a pocket so they inserted a drain. That must be removed in 3 days. The stitches will need to be removed later. It was unclear as to whether or not there will be a charge for it. The bill came to $327.20 and her handler is unable to pay this bill. A copy of the bill can be found here http://s181.photobucket.com/albums/x130/dutchess_belle/Injury/?action=view¤t=publicvetbill.jpg
Here is her handler's description of what happened on her fundable page, which is not working right now:
My 1 year old service dog in training, Taffy, was injured while playing
outside in the yard. We believe the fence might be damaged and that is
what cut a huge gash in her side. As soon as I saw it we rushed her to
Tufts and arrived around
10pm Oct 10. They immediately took her into the back with them and
after about an hour or so sent us home without her and want us to
return in a few hours. They needed to put her under to treat the large
wound properly. She also had a slight fever so they had to insert a
catheter and give her antibiotics via IV. She will need to be sent home
with antibiotics and possibly pain medicine. The vet said it will cost
at the very least $300 with her service dog discount. I'm on disability
and don't have enough money to pay for this. Taffy is a 1yr old cream
Standard Poodle. She has been training to be a service dog since she
was a little puppy. She already greatly helps me with my disability.
Her calmness at the dentist has been immensely helpful. She is a very
loyal companion. She helps me manage my disability on a daily basis.
UPDATE:
When we returned at 3AM Oct. 11, She was still in surgery. We waited in
the waiting room until she was discharged at 4:30AM
5AM Taffy is home and resting. It looks like she has 6 stitches. They
also had to put in a drain. Her injury supports my suspicions that it
was possibly from a broken wire on the fence. We will look for what
caused it after getting some sleep. They sent her home with an
antibiotic and pain medicine. The bill came to $327 and they are
sending me a bill in the mail as I was unable to pay. Once home she
refused to walk downstairs so I have to very carefully carry her down
them. She weighs 40lbs. She is kind of out of it but is looking forward
to being spoiled rotten while she recovers. She has eaten a little
kibble with canned mixed in (a special treat for her). Hopefully she'll
be back to her usual self in a few days.
12pm Because people have requested proof of the bill, I called Tufts
and the faxed it to me.
Please consider helping with this unexpected bill.
This bill has been paid in full. Thank you to all that helped.
